Miyavi
- galyuu

(only mp3s versions: no album cover!)

Note: 7/10

Miyavi... a great guitarist, an... "approximative" singer (I'm polite! but well, he's young and beginning...), and someone who could be a good composer, if he didn't spend so much time in photosession (+ to always show the same smile / poser attitudes... people probably will get fed up with it after a while, but he keeps on doing so... hope for him he'll change / I'm wrong!).
A lot of people don't like so much his first album, mainly because it was too "approximative". I don't know it: I can't compare these two alubms. The only previous stuff of him I know are his singles. And I had the same reaction for every of his singles: you feel it' s about to get heavy... you're "in the starting blocks", ready to bang your head... you get ready... you get ready... and the song ends! A frustrating musician to sum up...

There is less frustration in this album: when a song can be heavy, it usualy is heavy... not always a very "mastered" way to compose/play heavy songs, therefore it can become boring after a while, but a few listens are ok. This is a good point. Bad points: 1) my favourite / most original songs are the accoustic ones... he should find a way to put this kind of originality/fun in his heavy songs! 2) I think a little too often "mmmh... this sounds like Rammstein/Manson/whatever!": he definitely needs to find "his own way", his musical personality, call it as you wish. He's young, he has time for it, I only hope he finds it quickly, otherwise potential fans will get bored with him!
Oh and this album definitely isn't as poppy as the singles could make you fear: the only poppy song is Coo Quack Cluck, meaning the single + there are 2 or 3 accoustic songs, which I wouldn't call "poppy" anyway, and are really great. I probably wouldn't say you should buy it, but at least try to give it an ear: Miyavi definitely is going the good way (far more heavy), so try it to see if you like this way or not... let's only hope he finds his own way quite quickly, because for now he's only "a most gifted musician, wasting his talent": stuck in the 2nd division of jrock, while he could do so far better! LEAVE PHOTOSESSIONS AND COMPOSE, DAMN IT!
