L'Arc~en~Ciel
- Awake
(only mp3s: no album: no cover!)
Note: 7/10, because it's not so great, really.
Awake isn't a bad album, but... they're the kind of songs that will
quickly get into your mind, I would even say probably too quickly: when you
listen to it for the first time it sounds good/pleasant (the general atmosphere
is mostly positive: the kind of album you enjoy for beginning your day in a
good mood), but I wouldn't be surprised if it got a little boring within a few
months... Too bad they don't try to play a little more with melodies, instead
of just "playing it easy" as soon as they find an easy sound/riff: there are
a lot of interesting parts... but under-used! They play on rythms though, but
as they're always the same kind of rhythms... I always prefer when a band plays
on melodies, not rythms, so it doesn't speak to me so much, no big news!
One very good song still: My Dear, seventh song of the album, excellently
"built", Hyde finally uses his voice in a different way (while he can
do so many things with his voice, he uses it nearly always the same way throughout
the album (notes/effects), which is quite frustrating!), ok I admit you feel/hear
the damages of cigarettes (...and others...), but it's still really good! And
-here- they play with the melody first, then with the rhythm a little! And the
result is absolutely great!
