Dream Theater
- Train of Thought

Note: 8,5/10, because it' s great... but "a little something" is missing (I hesitated a lot with 9, but well...)

In this album Dream Theater remember that they are a prog-METAL! band! Atmosphere (dark, really dark), guitars, rythms, everything smells like metal here. Some people regret you can so easily think "mmmh this sounds like Metallica", on the first song, / let's sing "NoooOOOoOOomAD!", on the intro of the second song,..., but well... as long as it makes good songs, I don't care. Some people also discuss about how sad it can be that they are "only" playing "Dream Theater stuff", not trying to make something new... eeer I personaly think that they did renew their style here, by going back to their roots: why would "evolution" only mean "going to more complicated things"? I didn't like 6 Degrees so much, mainly because of its "too clean" sound, while the sound of Train of Thought has "a little something of dirty" which I like a lot. And if they had kept this "all cleany all smarty" sound they had on Metropolis II and 6 Degrees, then, up to me, they wouldn't have renewed their style. Here you just sit and appreciate the "RAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!"-atmosphere, not trying to analyse how complicated every part of the song may be (...although this is the only way some people appreciate songs... baaah too bad for them).

Still, everything isn't perfect: I like this band, a lot, but I usualy get bored after a while during their instrumental parts after a while (...which doesn't happen when I see them live, only on cds, don't ask me why!): there are less "boring" parts than in Metropolis II or 6 Degrees (where there were a lot, up to me), but still... baaaaah this is the traditional "bad point" of every progressive band after all, no big deal. And as long as there aren't too much + non-instrumental parts are GREAT, then it's perfect!
